The origins of Venice's canal
system began in the early 5th century when
refugees fled Lombard invaders built huts on the mud
banks and dug deep ditches to secure their boats.
Since that time the link of Venetians' life with sea
is total. Then the port grew rapidly and by the 12th.century,
Venice was an empire that secured strategic islands in
the Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean
seas and it became the world's leading maritime port.
Raising from this ancient
tradition Cattaruzza Shipping & Co. S.r.l. was
established since 1948 and based now in the new
premises of Porto Marghera, nowadays we cover all
services with agency activities including chartering
and assist a large number of ship-owners operating
almost every kind of vessels. Also, we manage a
regular cargo shipping line by sea-river going vessels
from northern ports of Adriatic to Black Sea and to
Caspian Sea where we are especially introduced, with
possibilities to forward goods to hinterland
destinations through our partners in Astrakhan.
